This race was capped at 500 and all 3 of us were scheduled in different waves. Joe went first with his age group, then Marc with his and finally I was in the very last wave which was reserved for “first timers”. I was pretty nervous about the swim and thought this wave would be a little better for me.
The swim has always been the thing I most freaked out about with doing a tri, but I ended up doing really well. I started far back in the pack, but had made my way to the very front by the end of the 1/2 mile!
My transition to the bike was a little slow, but I felt great and the 13 mile course had nice views of the mountains (although pretty hilly!).
When I got off the bike and back into the transition area, I got totally lost and couldn’t find my stuff! …..rookie mistake 😉
Eventually I headed out on the run and cruised on the out and back 5k course. Coolest thing was that I was never passed by anyone while running! I felt really strong for it being the last leg of the tri!
I am looking for an Olympic distance to do in the spring, but for now, all my focus is going toward the marathon in November!
