Give it a tri!

I told you all a couple weeks ago that I had some exciting news. The lovely Dancing Runner  already figured it out and if you follow me on IG, you probably did too!

I signed up for my first triathlon. I did one as a relay 2 years ago with Joe and my best friend (you can read about it here), but I just did the running part, so not much out of the ordinary for me.

IMG_0841 However, after watching my brothers Ironman in Racine and volunteering there, I got really caught up in the excitement and decided it was time to take the plunge myself!

I am starting with just a sprint tri, but the swim is long…1/2 mile. Followed by 13 miles on the bike and a 3.1 mile run.  I have been biking a ton since my most recent running injury, but the swimming part has always freaked me out. IMG_3039[1]

I just started my swim training and definitely have a long way to go. Especially since all of my training will be in a pool and I will be doing an open water swim in  a lake for the race.

Anyway, I am super excited about this and it actually forces me to cross train pretty strictly since I’m also still in marathon training as well.

The tri is on September 21, and I will definitely keep you posted on all of the training progress!

Any tips for tri training? I could use all the help I can get!

  1. GOOD LUCK! I hear the sprint tri is a good one…maybe it will be a transition for you to get into the triathlon world! I think if I ever did one of those it would be the sprint one. I also like the idea of doing the relay!!

    • The relay was so much fun and I definitely want to do another one of those at some point. It would be cool if you could do an Ironman relay – then the run would be a marathon which you would rock!

  2. Oh my gosh!! September!? That is awesome girl!! I did a sprint once and it was really fun, but I am a TERRIBLE biker. I can go, just not fast haha I’d like to do an XTerra one some day, but need to learn how to Mountain Bike first. I was a swimmer before I started running, so the bike is always what scares me. You’re gonna crush! Cant wait to follow your training 🙂

    • I am ok with the bike (I don’t go all that fast either though. haha), the swim is what scares me!
      I definitely want to do an xterra one someday too – I’m a decent mountain biker, but I do my fare share of flipping over the handlebars! haha

  3. Good luck! I’ve never done a triathlon …. but never say never! Have fun training.
