MI & WI Recap

Last Thursday I headed to MI for a couple exciting reasons. I had chosen a wedding dress last time I was there, but had to go back to get initial measurements, so the designer could custom make it for me πŸ™‚

The White Dress

The dress has been ordered and it’s starting to feel so real now!!!

The second reason I chose to go that particular weekend is because my mom was driving out to Wisconsin to cheer my brother on in the Racine 70.3 Ironman. I had never been to one of my brother’s races and my mom and I both decided to volunteer while we were there.

Hey there Chicago!

Hey there Chicago!

We arrived in Racine on Friday night, and didn’t have to do anything til noon on Saturday, so decided to take a tour of the Jelly Belly Factory Saturday morning.IMG_2867[1]

It was AMAZING! We learned the history of the company and production all while riding an awesome train and wearing super cool hats πŸ˜‰IMG_2870[1]IMG_2875[1]

Went a little overboard at the store afterward, but they had sport beans (irregular shaped) for 50 cents and I had to stock up!!IMG_2971[1]

I also got these to try!!IMG_2972[1]

After the tour, we headed to the expo and checked in with the volunteer coordinator. I was placed outside at the desk doing the initial check in for all of the racers.Β IMG_2878[1]

It was a long exhausting day, but so much fun to talk to everyone and be involved in all of the pre-race excitement!

The next day we were up early to go support my brother. I got to see him come out of the water and transition on to the bike!Β IMG_2889[1]

Then I had to report to my post! I would be at the “run out” offering sunscreen to all the racers. It was a perfect spot to see my brother come out for the run and snap a quick pic as he headed off on the 13.1 mile run.IMG_2892[1]

I had a little break for lunch before reporting to the finish line where I got to place medals on the necks of all these incredible athletes…so awesome.IMG_2881[1]

My mom was working the finish line too and she got to give my brother his medal and we both got a hug right at the finish – pretty cool huh? Β Matt did awesome and this was just a stepping stone to his full ironman in November.Β IMG_2893[1]

My mom and I hit the road after the race and headed back to MI. The next couple days were spend biking, running, eating, and seeing movies! Always so much fun with my momma! Oh – and we went stand up paddle-boarding! So fun!!IMG_2961[1]IMG_2900[1]

I am so motivated by everyone at the race this weekend and I absolutely loved volunteering and being a part of it. Now, I have some exciting news to be revealed later…:)

Have you ever volunteered or crewed a race? Ever done/want to do an ironman (full or half)??
