Injury update

You probably noticed I am still not doing any running….well, I did go to the doctor and he seemed perplexed by my pain….never a good sign.IMG_0747[1]

So…I was sent for X-rays, which came back completely normal…that’s good right?

I was prescribed naprosyn which is totally helping…I don’t have pain all the time anymore, just when I put excess pressure on my right leg. So I was referred to a Sports Med Doctor who requested and MRI…… IMG_0810[1]

The news is not so good…stress fractures of the sacrum and hip 😦 The only thing I can do for this is continue to rest. 6-8 weeks of total rest is recommended and it’s now been a little over 5 weeks since I stopped running. I can definitely feel it healing, however I can still feel a little ache there, so running is probably not going to happen in one more week.

What does this mean for the marathon? Well….probably nothing good. We are still 9 weeks out, but with the amount of time I have taken off and the time I probably still need before I can start running again, I’m not so sure I can pull it off. And, I am more concerned with getting fully healed so I can actually start running regularly again.

It is now looking like deferring to 2014 may be what needs to happen (if that’s even an option), but I’m not making any decisions right now. Luckily I have an amazing boyfriend who said if I have to defer he is going to do the same so we can run NYC together as we have been trying to do for years now.

I will keep you updated and in the meantime I am going to continue to bike, elliptical, climb and yoga it up as much as I can!

  1. Oh my gosh I’m so sorry!!!! That’s horrible and I really hope you feel much better in a week. I’m so glad they found out at was causing you so much pain. Way to playboy smart, love and hugs!

  2. Ugh! I hope you are totally on the mend and back to running super soon…Good thing you went to the dr and checked it out. And good thing it isn’t worse or any more limiting. At least you can still do the elliptical and yoga. Take it easy and if you have to defer, you will. Health more important. Ugh!

  3. How sweet is Joe for saying he will defer with you?! That is just awesome. I think that was so smart of you to get an MRI. Heal and rest up!! The marathon truly isn’t going anywhere and you will be so much more thankful running it if you are healthy!! I hope and pray you have a speedy recovery friend!! Hugs.

  4. Injuries are so frustrating, especially when there is nothing that a doctor can do for you :(.

  5. I am so sorry, I will tell you stress fractures are something not to mess with. I had one two years ago (pelvic bone) and I actually took almost 4 months off. I didn’t want to reinjure it by jumping in too soon because it is so easy to do it with stress fractures.

  6. i had a stress fracture the took a full 3 YEARS until i finally had zero pain– and it took that long because I just did NOT let it heal properly and take full time of and come back SLOW. instead, I was excited and antsy and kept trying to come back too soon and too strong.
So basically what I am saying… is YOU ARE DOING EXACTLY THE RIGHT THING AND I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!! 🙂
Don’t make my mistake 🙂 way to stay busy and keep a strong head!
