I was prescribed naprosyn which is totally helping…I don’t have pain all the time anymore, just when I put excess pressure on my right leg. So I was referred to a Sports Med Doctor who requested and MRI……
The news is not so good…stress fractures of the sacrum and hip 😦 The only thing I can do for this is continue to rest. 6-8 weeks of total rest is recommended and it’s now been a little over 5 weeks since I stopped running. I can definitely feel it healing, however I can still feel a little ache there, so running is probably not going to happen in one more week.
What does this mean for the marathon? Well….probably nothing good. We are still 9 weeks out, but with the amount of time I have taken off and the time I probably still need before I can start running again, I’m not so sure I can pull it off. And, I am more concerned with getting fully healed so I can actually start running regularly again.
It is now looking like deferring to 2014 may be what needs to happen (if that’s even an option), but I’m not making any decisions right now. Luckily I have an amazing boyfriend who said if I have to defer he is going to do the same so we can run NYC together as we have been trying to do for years now.
I will keep you updated and in the meantime I am going to continue to bike, elliptical, climb and yoga it up as much as I can!
