Race Recap + a Day in Boulder

Thanks to all of your well wishes, I am feeling much better today and am ready to head to work! I’m so glad yesterday was a school holiday and I didn’t have to take a sick day! However, I am pretty bummed that my weekend went south and I wasn’t able to head to the mountains to snowboard with our friend Marc who was in town.

However, we did have a fabulous day on Saturday! We woke up bright and early to head to Boulder for the Fast & Flurry-ous 4 miler. We got there around 8 to pick up our shirts and bibs.

Then we hung around while the weather warmed up, stretched a bit and I had a couple bites of a cliff bar. Before we knew it, it was 9 am and time for the women to start! I made my way to the start line with 200 other ladies and got in position.                                                                                                                                  IMG_2222[1] IMG_2227[1]

Then we were off! I started much faster than I meant to (around a 7:10 pace) so backed off a bit when I got to the half mile mark. The course was almost completely trail and much hillier than I expected. We had to do 3 laps around a park and lake and it actually ended up being a little more than 4 miles.            IMG_2230[1]

I finished 33rd overall and 5th in my age division with a time of 32:21 and a  7:54 pace (remember the course was a little longer than 4 miles). I am totally happy with that- especially since the course was a lot tougher than I expected!

Next up was the men’s race and Joe did really well! Marc had a tough time with the altitude, but that was to be expected.                                                          IMG_2235[1] IMG_2236[1]

He finished 69th overall, with a time of 30:15! Woot woot!! The post race food was pretty impressive: Pizza from Naked Pizza, including gluten free options, bagels, Nature Valley granola bars, fruit snacks, and hot chocolate! Winners in each age division took home a 6 pack of Avery Beer too! IMG_2239[1] IMG_2240[1]

Eventually we left the scene and headed into town to make a quick stop at the Newton Running Lab.                                                                                       IMG_2242[1]

Then we stopped at a couple favorite breweries, Walnut and Mountain Sun for some food and beer.                                                                  IMG_2246[1] IMG_2247[1]

And, after watching a Jamaican man fit himself into a glass box….IMG_2245[1]

we decided to pack it up and head back to Denver. Once back, we all showered and headed to the Ale House to meet up with some friends. It was a great day and definitely has me itching to do another race again soon!! Going to check the calendars now 🙂

Do you run trail or road races? Have a preference?
