Friday Food Fun

Happy Friday everyone!! This week has been a blur of ending jobs, packing boxes and squeezing in friend time. But, I wanted to throw out a quick post based on an article I read on Livestrong. I also write for Livestrong, but this article was by Joe Donatelli and he’s actually pretty funny πŸ™‚ You can click the link to read the whole thing, but here’s some fun facts:

The 10 Weirdest Foods at Your Grocery Store (and why you should eat them)

  1. Carraway Seed – contains fiber, zinc, magnesium, iron and vitamin C
  2. Raw Catfish Nuggets – protein packed!
  3. Chicken Liver – full of iron and vitamins B12 and A (this is one I have not and will not be trying)
  4. Hemp Milk – contains iron, magnesium, and omega 3’s. I use to drink this in my tea everyday!
  5. Leeks – allium, vitamins K and C, manganese and folate.
  6. Millet – great gluten free grain option containing fiber and magnesium.
  7. Rhubarb – contains fiber, vitamin K and B, and beta carotene…I don’t think I have ever actually had rhubarb!
  8. Pickled Ginger – great for digestive health and nausea. Love me some pickled-g on my sushi!
  9. Sardines – rich in omega 3 and B12
  10. Turkey Neck – potassium, protein, iron (this one will not be happening either).

How many of these foods have you tried? Any that you eat on a regular basis?

  1. I have not tried (nor do I think I will, lol) any of those. Rich eats sardines though…I cannot get past the visual, haha. Was thinking about you this week as I know you probably are so busy with packing and everything…I hope everything is going smoothly though. Happy Friday! πŸ™‚

  2. omg my sister eats sardines lol like all the time lol

  3. I’ve had leeks, carraway seeds, pickled ginger and turkey neck. My mom used to use the turkey “giblets” in the gravy. Cooked of coarse! I’ve been wanting to hemp milk and millet so I might have to add them to my shopping list!
