20 miler

20 miles done!!

First, carb loading dinner on Friday night. Angel hair with spinach and vegan beef, in vodka sauce. Plus, breaded baked eggplant, YUM!

Now the run.

This is my longest distance yet! Joe and I got up around 7 and I had my usual coffee and pb on toast with chia seeds. I wanted to wear the outfit I am going to for the marathon, but it was only 38 degrees out and I just couldn’t do it. So, I wore the same long sleeve top, but threw on full tights instead. Plus a hat and gloves.

I filled up one water bottle with gatorade and one with water and packed 2 packs of sport beans.

We set out in the chilly morning and walked to Central Park. There were SO MANY people out doing their last long run- it was packed!

My shins hurt for the first mile or so (that’s been happening again lately), but they eased up and were fine from mile 2 on. We did 4 miles in the park, then ran 1 mile over to the Hudson river. We went downtown 5 miles, turned around and ran back up 5 miles. Then we headed back into the park to finish the last 4 miles.

I had beans at mile 6, 12, and 16 and I think I finally worked out the right fueling and hydration because I felt great for the whole run. I had some foot pain (especially my left) and my old IT band pain was coming in a little, but nothing intolerable at all.

We finished in a little over 3 hours, which is totally fine by me! If I can keep that pace for the last 10k, I should finish at just under 4 hours, which would be AMAZING! However, I am just going to be happy to finish and I’m really not concerned about my time at all!

Taper starts this week, so that should be interesting. The thought of continuously decreasing mileage is totally weird to me, but everyone does it, so there must be a reason, right? 😉

After the run I made a protein shake with soy milk, 1 scoop whey protein, frozen banana, strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. There is something about a protein smoothie after a run that just tastes SO good!

I actually went into work for a few hours in the afternoon and then Joe and I headed to Hi Thai on the lower east side for my friend Jari’s surprise b-day party!

mmm- thai food is delicious….

steamed veggie dumplings

We had a good time, but I was so incredibly exhausted from the day, that I just wanted to go home and crash…which I did.

Did you do a long run yesterday? Do anything else exciting?
