Finally a good run!

It seems like all my runs have not felt good lately. I have been so tired and the heat has really been bothering me! Temps in the 100’s have not helped with motivation at all.

However, this most recent heat wave broke yesterday with a crazy thunderstorm. So, this morning, after breakfast of blueberries, greek yogurt, granola, and a drizzle of honey:

when I was about to head to the gym for an elliptical day, I suddenly had the urge to run!

So, I changed shoes, grabbed the Garmin and headed to the park! Even though you could feel the humidity in the air, it was only 73 degrees out with a nice breeze, and total cloud coverage (my favorite running sky 🙂 ).

I ended up doing 8.5 miles and every minute felt great. I planned a route so that I would do Harlem Hills twice (sadly, I didn’t find any money this time 😦 ).

My pace wasn’t super fast, varied between 8:00 and 8:30, but I was so happy the whole time and it totally gave me my confidence back after such a crappy run on Sunday. Yay!

When I got home I whipped up a protein shake, stretched, and iced my shins.

1 cup soy milk, 1 scoop whey protein powder. hand-full of blueberries, 1/2 frozen banana, spoon-full of PB

Blended in the magic bullet! Yummmmmmmm!

1. Did you/are you running today? How far?

2. What do you like to eat before/right after running?

  1. So happy you had a great run!!! The weather has definitely been killer! Nice looking breakfast. 🙂 I ran 9 this morning but the humidity really got to me…oh well…there’s always another day, lol. I usually eat a Clif bar or PowerBar before a run (if less than 10, a couple GU’s or Honey Stinger waffle). Congrats again! 🙂

    • Thanks Melissa!! good job on your 9- the humidity does suck the life out of you! And, yes, the great news is there is always another day and another run 🙂

  2. Hooray, awesome run! I’m glad you got your groove back, so to speak. I’ve never tried peanut butter in a smoothie, but I think I might have to after reading this post–it sounds really good!

  3. So happy that you had such a great run. I’m sure you had a hugee runners high afterwards! It’s crazy how one good run can build your confidence right back up 🙂

I don’t always eat before I run. It depends on if it’s a LR or not. If it’s a LR, i’ll have a piece of toast with pb or honey on it. After my runs I for the most part always have chocolate milk.
